You Can Rank #1 on Google
and Still Be Invisible to AI
Traditional rank tracking tells you where you sit on Google. It doesn't tell you whether ChatGPT, Perplexity, or Google's own AI Overviews are actually mentioning your business when someone asks a relevant question. We track both — as one connected part of every SEO and AEO engagement.
Tracking
Search used to mean one thing: where do you rank on a results page. Now there's a second, separate question that matters just as much — when someone asks an AI system a question in your category, does your business get mentioned in the answer at all?
These are genuinely different outcomes. A page can rank on page one of Google and never once get cited by ChatGPT. A page can barely rank organically and still get pulled into a Perplexity answer because it's structured in a way AI systems trust. Without tracking both, you're only seeing half the picture of how people are actually finding — or not finding — your business today.
AI Visibility Tracking is how we monitor that second half. In practice, this means:
- Citation tracking — monitoring whether and how often your brand, content, or product shows up in answers from ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, and Copilot for your target queries
- Share-of-voice against competitors — seeing not just whether you're cited, but how often relative to the competitors also showing up in the same AI answers
- Query-level visibility — understanding which specific questions and topics you're getting cited for, so content strategy can double down on what's already working and fix what isn't
- Cross-referencing with traditional rankings — comparing your Google ranking position against your AI citation frequency for the same keyword, since the two increasingly tell different stories
Doesn't Move Anything
We don't sell AI visibility tracking as a standalone product, for the same reason we don't sell content writing on its own: tracking without a strategy attached to it doesn't move anything. Numbers on a dashboard that nobody acts on don't grow a business.
So instead, AI visibility data feeds directly into the same engagement as everything else we do. When we see a query where you're ranking well on Google but getting zero AI citations, that's a signal to strengthen schema, structure, or trust signals on that page — work that happens inside your existing SEO/AEO package. When we see strong AI citation on a topic with weak traditional rankings, that tells us where to double down on content, because it means the underlying material is already good enough that AI systems trust it — the traditional ranking will often follow.
Tracking that doesn't connect to action isn't worth much. This is why it lives inside the full engagement, not as a report you receive in isolation.
the Industry Can Actually Do
Most of what gets marketed as “AI visibility tracking” right now is still catching up — a lot of it is manual spot-checking or early-stage tooling that hasn't matured yet. We're honest about that state of the industry rather than overselling precision that doesn't exist yet.
What we commit to:
- Consistent, repeatable checks across the AI platforms that actually matter for your audience — not a one-time snapshot
- Real numbers, not vanity dashboards — if visibility is flat or declining somewhere, we'll tell you that plainly, the same way we told a client the truth about a shrinking market rather than a comfortable traffic number. Read that story →
- Tying tracking to the content and authority work that actually moves it — see our approach to Content & Authority Building → since the two are closely connected: what earns trust is largely what earns AI citation
Our Reporting Process
AI Visibility Tracking runs alongside our existing reporting process, not apart from it:
- Baseline — establishing where you currently stand across AI platforms before any work begins, so progress is measurable
- Monthly reporting — AI citation data reported alongside traditional rankings, traffic, and conversions, not as a separate report you have to reconcile yourself
- Strategy adjustment — using what's actually getting cited (and what isn't) to inform content priorities going forward
- Competitive tracking — keeping an eye on where competitors are showing up in AI answers that you aren't, and vice versa
Do you offer AI visibility tracking as a standalone service?
No — we track AI visibility as part of our SEO and AEO packages, because the tracking only creates value when it's connected to the strategy and content work that can actually change the numbers.
Which AI platforms do you track?
ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, and Copilot are the primary platforms we monitor, since they currently represent the majority of AI-driven search behavior. We adjust this based on where your specific audience is most likely to be asking questions.
How is this different from regular keyword rank tracking?
Keyword rank tracking tells you your position on a traditional search results page. AI visibility tracking tells you whether AI systems are actually citing or mentioning your business when someone asks a related question — a related but genuinely separate outcome, since a page can perform very differently on each.
How often is AI visibility checked?
This is tracked on an ongoing basis and reported monthly alongside your other SEO/AEO metrics, so you can see how it moves over time rather than getting a single snapshot.
